The main direction of our company is the creation of ergonomic interiors in a modern style with the maximum use of natural materials, so that the interior design is not only functional and beautiful, but also ecological.
When working with natural materials, you should always remember that they will require certain care. Therefore, they should be used carefully in the interior, having carefully studied all their pros and cons.
The philosophy of modern style in the interior is the maximum release of space. This is because living in big cities, we get tired of the constant commotion, cars, etc. When we come home, we need to rest as much as possible, and a light space that is not cluttered with anything and has enough air and light helps with this.
The use of wood in a modern interior
Wood is used quite often in the interior – it is a floor covering, wooden partitions-screens for dividing small spaces, some pieces of furniture for bathrooms, etc.
In interiors in a modern style, wood also plays the role of interesting color accents: a wooden floor with an interesting natural texture contrasts well with light walls and adds status to the interior.
Tip: if you use wood of warm tones for the floor, it is better to use paint of cold shades for the walls – this will add contrast and make the combination more profitable.
The use of natural stone in a modern interior
Natural stone in the interior is an interesting way to give it real natural shades. In our work, we quite often use the stone to finish wet rooms, such as the bathroom. So, for example, natural slate has an interesting texture, does not require any special care, is resistant to changes in temperature and moisture, therefore it is recommended to use it in finishing works in the bathroom.
In addition to using stone as a finishing material, it can be used as a floor covering. This decision in the conditions of our climate makes sense only when installing a heated floor, since the stone cools down a lot. But in tropical countries and countries with a warmer climates, stone floors are common, because the strength of the stone allows you to create what is called an almost eternal floor covering.
Tip: if you want to use a stone for finishing the floor, it is better to take the material that has already been processed, with the final lacquer coating already applied. This is how you save your floor from the effects of the environment, coffee or wine stains will never appear on a properly treated marble floor.
Furniture made of natural materials in a modern interior
To create an interior in a modern style, built-in storage systems, cabinets of laconic colors and textures are often used, often without handles, so that they can be opened by simply pressing the desired panel. These cabinets can be made of solid wood or MDF.
Wood can deform over time, and since furniture in modern interiors is usually built-in, we do not recommend making frames for them from natural wood. But using it for facades is a working solution. It is better to create a frame based on MDF. MDF is created from pressed shavings that undergo special heat treatment, resulting in a durable, non-toxic material that is easy to use.
With this combination, you will get functional and durable storage systems, which will also be environmentally friendly.
One of our favorite solutions is the use of natural wood tables in the interior. Such tables are made from saws of SUAR, teak, etc. in a properly created modern interior, they become a stylish natural accent of the living room or during kitchen renovation.
Natural fabrics in a modern interior
In the pursuit of natural materials, it is also worth remembering that they require special care, can cause allergies, etc. It mainly concerns textiles. So when choosing a cover for sofas, chairs, etc. it is worth remembering that the wear resistance of natural fabrics is often much lower than that of other modern materials.
The way out of this situation is simple – you can use so-called semi-natural materials, which, due to special processing and the addition of synthetic fibers, become stronger, more convenient to use, but at the same time remain quite environmentally friendly.
Textiles in the interior play the role of color accents. Therefore, if you want to emphasize the natural component of your interior, it makes sense to use fabrics of natural shades. If you want to add some bright accents, this can be done, for example, with the help of bright pillows.
Plants in a modern interior
Plants are acceptable and shown for interiors in almost all possible styles. It is they who create the main feeling of “naturalness” and the naturalness of the interior. In addition, plants add unique color accents to the interior.
Tip: if you are often away from home and are not sure that you will be able to water your houseplants on time, do not worry, now we will tell you about those that do not require special care – we often use them in the interiors created by our company Sarah:
- ficus
- aloe
- “money tree”
- different types of moss
How practical are natural materials?
Many of our customers ask how practical natural materials are because there is a concern that they require extra high maintenance.
Practice shows that if they are used correctly (as with built-in storage systems, where it is better not to use the array as enclosures, but to let it only on the facade), then they will require no more maintenance than any other materials.
As a floor covering, for example, instead of solid wood (if you want to avoid possible further deformation of the floor), you can also use natural ones – parquet or engineered boards.
How much can natural materials cost?
It often seems that natural materials are always more expensive than artificial ones. But this is not always the case: for example, 1 square meter of natural slate is worth around 1.2 thousand hryvnias, and the same amount of porcelain tiles of the required quality will cost around 2.2 thousand hryvnias.
Furniture made of natural wood, of course, is more expensive than chipboard, but at the same time it is much better in quality, which makes it more durable.
In addition, the price strongly depends on the country of the manufacturer of materials or furniture. So a table made of Indonesian teak will cost more than a similar table, for example, made of larch. Here it is worth considering the technical parameters of wood: teak, for example, can be used in very humid rooms and it will not deteriorate, while the wood of other varieties will lose its appearance and begin to deteriorate after several years of constant contact with moisture.
Therefore, when choosing materials for your interior, you need to pay attention not only to the initial cost, but also to all their technical characteristics.
